Southern Gulf Islands

Southern Gulf Islands

The Southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada, lie between Vancouver Island and the North American mainland just north of the Canada-US border. To the south are the San Juan Islands in Washington State.

Galiano, Mayne, Pender, and Saturna islands are easily accessible on BC Ferries from Swartz Bay near Victoria and Tsawwassen south of Vancouver. On summer weekends, vehicle reservations are essential from Tsawwassen but not accepted at all at Swartz Bay. The Gulf Islands are the perfect choice for a mini vacation.

Bed and breakfast accommodations are available on all of the islands and a few upscale resorts are also present. Cottages can be rented by the week. The mountain and coastal trails are ideal for hikers with deer, raccoons, bald eagles, otters, seals, sea lions, porpoises, and (if you're lucky) killer whales to be seen along the way. The forests are largely undisturbed.
