Living Our Culture Celebration

The Department of Canadian Heritage Cultural Capital of Canada Program and the City of Nanaimo are having a Living Our Culture Celebration Dinner and Dance to wrap up Nanaimo's year as a Cultural Capital of Canada. This event takes place on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Beban Park Social Center, 2300 Bowen Road, and will feature multicultural dance performances, Nanaimo's own Wunderbread, and an international buffet dinner catered by Mrs. Riches.

Nanaimo was one of only four Canadian cities awarded the prestigious title of Cultural Capital of Canada in 2008 and is receiving $750,000 in federal funding for this project. These national Cultural Capital awards recognize and support Canadian municipalities for special activities that harness the many benefits of arts and culture in community life. As a Cultural Capital Canada in 2008, Nanaimo was "Living Our Culture" with five celebratory multi-event programs that involved a wide variety of cultures, disciplines and ages, engaging professional and amateur artists. The program also produced four legacy events that built a lasting arts and cultural legacy for our community.

2008 was indeed an exciting and unprecedented year for Nanaimo, Canada's Cultural Capital, and the Cultural Capital team wants you to help celebrate this success on January 31, 2009. Bring along family and friends for an exciting evening of dinner and dance with an international flair. Partake in delectable edible delights from all corners of the globe and dance to the tunes of Wunderbread’s disco funk extravaganza! Tickets are $35/person and include dinner, entertainment and dancing to Wunderbread. They can be purchased at the Beban Park Box Office, tel. 250-756-5200.
