A Latin Experience Concert

CHLY 101.7fm Radio Malaspina is hosting its 11th instalment of their Acoustic Concert Series: A Latin Experience. This evening of South American music, featuring flamenco, gypsy, and jazz guitar stylings will be performed by Nanaimo's Oscar Celmotte and Campbell River's Rodrigo on Sunday, January 11, 2009. Doors open at 7 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm. The venue is Vancouver Island University, Campus Theatre Building No 310, 900 Fifth St., and tickets are $10 in advance of $15 at the door (available at Fascinating Rhythms on Commercial Street, Falconer Books in Port Place Mall, or Long & McQuade on Metral Drive).

Oscar Clemotte is a Paraguayan-born, internationally recognized guitar player and teacher who guarantees a lively and inspiring night of Latin American music! Oscar began studying the guitar at the age of seven, but has since learned to play a variety of other instruments, including the Paraguayan harp, the zampona, the Venezuelan cuatroand, and the Bolivian charango. He has performed at concerts and festivals all over the world, including Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Italy, Israel, Portugal, and Spain. Alongside his many musical endeavours, Oscar is also a philosophy professor at Vancouver Island University.

Rodrigo is a Chilean-born guitar virtuoso who has been living in Canada since 1993 and has performed throughout British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. He is a staple at local music festivals, including The Vancouver Island Music Festival in Comox Valley, Island Music Fest in Duncan, and The Sunshine Coast Music Festival in Powell River. Rodrigo is sure to spark your urge to dance with Spanish, Latin, Brazilian, and North American music!
