Fairmont Hotels and Resorts

The Vancouver Animal Defense League is calling for a nationwide boycott of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts until the chain cancels the lease of Snowflake Furs at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, 900 West Georgia Street. Snowflake Furs is a leading purveyor of luxury coats, jackets, capes, shawls, hats, and accessories made from animal skins. “Furs are worn by beautiful animals and ugly people. It takes 40 dumb animals to make a fur coat but only one to wear it.”

The Vancouver Animal Defense League is calling on Canadians to boycott all Fairmont Hotels and Resorts locations until Snowflake Furs is evicted from their retail space at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The group is urging people to telephone the hotel manager Rick Corcoran at 1-866-540-4452 or 1-604-684-3131 and ask him to review Snowflake's lease.

Next weekend the Vancouver Animal Defense League will mount a double protest in front of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, 900 West Georgia Street, on Friday, November 28, 2008, at noon, and same time, same place, on Sunday, November 30, 2008. Activists are invited to bring along their own signs and banners, or to carry one of those provided by the organisers. A large turnout is expected!

UPDATE: Thanks to all the activists who came to our demo on Sunday, we actually succeeded in shutting the store down, for one day at least!! We had over 50 activists at every entrance of the hotel, and the hotel staff thought it would be better to send the fur store staff home for the day, the sign read "Away for lunch", oh boy we know they are waaaaayyy out to lunch!!

Our next demo is Sunday, December 7, 2008, which is during the Santa Claus Parade! There will be over 300 000 people there to watch the parade which goes right by the front of the building and we will be leafleting as many as we can asking them to boycott the hotel chain. We will be there starting at noon, hope to see you there!
