Introduction to Artistic Glass

Glass artist Christopher Smith is hosting a Fused Glass Workshop at the Glaskrafter Art Glass Studio, 8226 Sabre Road off Highway 19 in Lantzville, on October 3, 4, and 5, 2008. The classes will consist of a glass cutting workshop on Friday from 7 pm to 10 pm, the creation of flat fused glass piece(s) on Saturday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, and everything else on Sunday from 10 am. Those taking the workshop will design, cut out, assemble, and fuse a glass bowl, platter, tray, or whatever they desire (within reason). The classes will provide ample information about firing schedules, ways of slumping, slumping without molds, casting, and other warm glass techniques, and questions will be welcomed. Class tuition for the weekend is $204.75 plus a lab fee of $36.75 which covers the cost of two square feet of COE96 glass, some frit, shelf, and mold release.

Smith is also offering a one-day Intensive Sandblasting Workshop at his studio from 10 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, October 11, 2008. Participants will be exposed to a number of techniques, including sandcarving and shading, and negative area blasting. The tuition is $115.50 which includes the cost of materials to create two small sandblasted pieces of plate glass art. For more information, directions, and registration at either workshop, call Christopher Smith at 250-390-2023.
