FPN Meeting and Pacific Gardens

Friends of Plan Nanaimo will meet in the Kin Hut beside the park on Departure Bay Beach at 7 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2008. The guest speakers will be Christina Knighton and Kathryn Hazel who will talk about the Pacific Gardens co-housing project on Seventh Street, Nanaimo. Co-housing has been called a return to the best of the small-town community, creating neighbourhoods that combine the autonomy of private dwellings with the advantages of shared resources and community living. Residents own their own home with all amenities but share in the common areas. The shared facilities and physical design have proven to support and sustain community connection over time.

Pacific Gardens is an inclusive community celebrating a connection to nature and social action in a sharing, caring and cooperative environment. The mission of Pacific Gardens is to establish a sustainable cohousing community in Nanaimo, which successfully embodies the principles of community, cooperation, consensus and respect. It should be an interesting presentation and everyone is welcome.
