NALT Picnic in CassidyThe Nanaimo and Area Land Trust in holding their 8th annual picnic at the Van Kerkoerle property on Sunday, August 17, 2008. There will be lots to see and do between noon and 4 pm on this beautiful, pristine 40-acre estate in Cassidy, home to Peter and Anneke Van Kerkoerle. Enjoy a guided walk of Peter's arboretum, the woodlands full of wild critters, and the wetland teeming with red-legged frogs and a resident beaver. A barbecue lunch featuring wild salmon plus afternoon refreshments will be available for a very reasonable set price.

NALT's Natural Abundance Native Plant Nursery at the same location will also be open on Sunday. This is a good time to see what's new in the nursery and stock up for the fall planting season. If you have never visited this beautiful, tranquil place, this is the perfect time. You can visit for an hour or stay for the whole afternoon. The Van Kerkoerle property is at 3145 Frost Road. Turn off the Island Highway onto Spruston Road at the Haslam Creek Bridge just before Nanaimo Airport (if heading south). After two km on Spruston Road, turn left on Frost Road.
