Chowder Fest Winners Announced

Green Olive Winner Aaron MayerWith the help of 11 restaurants and 10 sponsors, the Nanaimo Museum spread seafood joy on the 9th of August, 2008, with its annual Chowder Fest fundraiser. Even as the last plate was being served at 3 pm, museum staff began counting the votes. Each person stumbling away from Pioneer Waterfront Plaza, full belly in hand, shared a different personal favourite, and it was unclear to whom the People’s Choice Award would go to!

Well, Green Olive Bar and Grill on Skinner Street takes the top spot at Chowder Fest 2008! For two years in a row, the Green Olive has produced the crowd favourite. The votes were very close for the top three restaurants. The Bold Knight Steak and Seafood Restaurant scooped up the Silver Ladle award this year, while the Firehouse Grill grabbed the Bronze Ladle.

Much detail and preparation was put in by each participating restaurant, and special awards were given for this effort. The Dinghy Dock from Protection Island, who constructed their own boat-styled table special for this event, took home the Best Display Award.

The Nanaimo Museum decided to recognize the continued support of one restaurant that has only missed one festival in the last six years. Amazing Thai was named Friend of the Museum for their dedication to supporting the museum.

Congratulations to all of the incredible chefs and assistants that helped make Chowder Fest 2008 such a success, including those from the Wesley Street Cafe, the Lighthouse Bistro, the Longwood Brew Pub, Carrot on the Run, the Oxy, and the Basque Restaurant.
