Nanaimo Miners Heritage Picnic

Fiddlers EnsembleThe South End Community Association is presenting the 16th annual Miners Heritage Picnic at Deverill Square Park, Haliburton and Milton streets, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday June 21, 2008. The day begins with a free pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 am, sponsored by the Hub City Lions Club. The Bowen Park Entertainment Orchestra will play, with special appearances by the Cunningham Musical Family at 10 am, the Fiddlers Ensemble (pictured here) from the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music at 11 am, and the Trinitude Folk Group at 2 pm.

From 10 am to 2 pm there will be pony rides and a petting farm for the kids. The El Paso Train Adventure, Merrygo Swings, Ginormous 25” Inflated Slide, and Castle Bouncer will be available from 11 am to 3 pm. Other events include the Heritage Walk at 11 am, Zigster, the Trickster, an internationally known magician, at noon, a pet parade at 12:30 pm, and Whizzbang!: - Circus Troupe performing a play about miners on stilts at 1 pm. From 2 to 3 pm there will be the Reunion Strawberry Social for Past and Present Senior Residents of the South End, sponsored by the Nicol Street Dairy Queen and Coastal Community Credit Union.

Ongoing events and display throughout the day include children’s games, radio handmade models by Jack Peterson, the children’s and adults art tent, the Princess Royal Family Centre, Nanaimo Search & Rescue, the BC Hydro Power Smart Team, Nanaimo Recycling Exchange, Nanaimo Estuary Society, and much more! All activities and events are free.
