EveryBodySings! Choral Group

EveryBodySings! is an informal choral group led by Shirley Whitelaw and Cyndi Jackelman of Mama's Kitchen fame. It's designed for people who enjoy singing as part of a lively, supportive group. In church basements and community halls across Vancouver Island, people who used to claim “I'm scared to sing aloud” are belting out beautiful melodies in four-part harmony without accompaniment. They are part of a growing movement to reclaim singing as an everyday social activity, one that is not reserved for professionals. The main focus of the choir is companionship and the experience of people making music together with the most natural instrument of all, the voice.

EveryBodySings! is a Nanaimo group that is part of this phenomenon. Shirley and Cyndi enable group members to learn a diverse repertoire that includes traditional melodies and chants from all over the world, contemporary music, and folk songs. Two groups will start a new series in the first week of June, 2008. The Lantzville group will meet Tuesdays from 7 pm to 9 pm on June 3, 10, 17, and 24 at St. Philip's-by-the-Sea Anglican Church, 7113 Lantzville Road. In Nanaimo the Thursday sessions are from 10 am to 12 noon on June 5, 12, 19, and 26 at St Andrews United Church Hall, Wesley Street off Fitzwilliam. The fee is $7 per session or $25 for all four weeks. For more information call Shirley Whitelaw at 250-390-1182.
