Demeters Coffee Vault Nanaimo

Demeter’s Coffee VaultDemeter’s Coffee Vault, 499 Wallace Street, is an elegant coffee shoppe in the European tradition. It’s housed in the former Merchant’s Bank in downtown Nanaimo, erected in 1912 and designed by the architect of the Parliament Buildings in Victoria. The eclectic Renaissance design is evident in the beams supporting the ceiling and semicircular windows. The twirling fans, antique furniture, and tiled floors add to the allure. The colourful paintings hanging from the walls are for sale.

Demeter and Divina offer a wide selection of coffees and teas. If it isn’t time for a latte or mocha, you can get a small cup of Demeter’s gourmet coffee for only $1.25. Soup, sandwich, and coffee for lunch is $10, or try one of the tasty samosas ($3). The homemade desserts include muffins, pies, and Nanaimo bars.

There’s often evening entertainment at the Vault, such as the Open Mic on Mondays from 7:30 pm. Live music with a $7 cover charge is presented several nights a week. Call (250) 716-1632 for the schedule.
