NALT Watershed Progressive Hike

The Nanaimo and Area Land Trust is sponsoring a shoreline to summit hike on Saturday, April 19, 2008, as part of the Brant Wildlife Festival. The group will hike the Millstone River system to Buttertubs Marsh and Westwood Lake, and from there on up the Westwood Ridges or to the Mount Benson summit.

This will be a progressive guided hike through the Millstone River watershed. The hike has been broken down into four stages from easy to hard to allow everyone an opportunity to participate. The event begins at the Millstone River Estuary in Maffeo Sutton Park at 9 am. The second stage leaves Buttertubs Marsh (north side) at 10:30 am. Stage three is from Westwood Lake at noon. Those tackling the challenging climb up Mount Benson itself will leave Witchcraft Lake at 11:30 am (weather permitting).

It’s possible to join or leave the group at any point. NALT asks that you pre-register by calling tel. 250-714-1990. A fee of $5 to $10 per stage will be requested, or $15 for the whole day (reductions for children under 10). You’re also asked to arrive at the starting points at least 15 minutes early to check in and sign the waiver. Shuttles will be provided back to parked vehicles from the various transfer points.
