VISO Open Dress Rehearsal

Vancouver Island SymphonyThe Vancouver Island Symphony is having its annual Open Dress Rehearsal at the Port Theatre, Nanaimo, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2008. Gerald van Wyck, the VI Symphony's Assistant Conductor, will give a brief introduction at 12:15 pm. No tickets are required and admission is on a first come basis. A donation of $2 per person and a donation to the Food Bank are suggested. Everyone is welcome, although children must be accompanied by an adult.

This is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to see and hear how a symphony orchestra pulls together a concert, how segments of the music are fine-tuned ready for the performance that evening. Watch guest conductor Tommy Banks make subtle requests of the musicians, changes that can affect the whole feel of the music, everything from how fast the segment is played to how loud or soft each section of the orchestra must be. See how the strings do their bowing, how the horns come together, and how percussion keeps the beat in this exciting Magnificent Westerns program with music from Western movies. This is a rehearsal, so there will be a lot of stopping and starting. But, you get to see the magic of a symphony at work, ready to pull it all together.
