Face the Music Fundraiser

Vancouver Island SymphonyThe Vancouver Island Symphony is having its 5th annual gala fundraising event at the Coast Bastion Inn, Nanaimo, on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Cocktails are at 5:45 pm and dinner at 6:45 pm. The VISO invites you to taste the wine, hear the band, and blow your horn.

Two colourful Nanaimo residents, Marianne and Jim Turley of Turley's Florist, will be Roasted, Toasted, and told to Face the Music. Over the years the Turleys have given of their time, their flowers, and themselves to this community, the island, and the VI Symphony. Turley's Florist has been in existence at 60 Terminal Ave. since 1959. Says Jim, "My grandfather bought the property in 1946, started making drain tile on the site, then built and started the flower shop. I thought of going into the business but went off to do other things." Other things included studying agriculture at UBC where he met up with and married Marianne. "In 1975 we moved back to Nanaimo and we've been here ever since."

In addition to the Roast and Toast, guests will enjoy a delicious three-course dinner, fabulous wine, excellent entertainment, plus silent and live auctions. To take part in this light-hearted, fun-filled evening, call the VI Symphony office (250-754-0177) and talk with coordinator Kate Hynes, or print out the ticket order form on the web site www.viso.bc.ca and fax it to 250-754-0165.
