Bluebird Motel Nanaimo

Bluebird MotelTerminal Avenue and Nicol Street are lined with functional old motels dating from the 1950s. The Bluebird Motel, 995 North Terminal Avenue, almost opposite Colonial Motel, is of that type. The 29 smallish rooms in this two-story building all have cable TV, table, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, queen-sized bed or beds, and bath tub and shower, but don't expect anything more. The walls are rather thin so noise from adjacent rooms and the nearby highway can be a factor. Four of the downstairs rooms are designated for smokers.

Room rates during the low winter season start at $50/60 single/double, plus 13 percent tax, increasing to as much as $110 double in mid-summer. Third persons pay $10, and the 14 rooms with kitchens are another $10 extra. Request the senior rate, if you can. Pets are allowed in the downstairs rooms at a $10 surcharge. Local telephone calls are free and wireless internet is available. There's ample free parking.
