VISO The Magnificent Westerns

Senator Tommy BanksIt's time to saddle up and ride on down to The Port Theatre, Nanaimo, as the Vancouver Island Symphony presents The Magnificent Westerns, a program created and conducted by Canadian living legend of radio and television, music icon, and Albertan, Tommy Banks.

Yup folks, it's an evening dedicated to oaters, dusters, grand-slam fisticuffs, sunsets, and sweat as the notorious Banks (Liberal senator, Juno and Gemini Award winner, Order of Canada recipient, musician, and composer) conducts the mighty fine musicians of the VI Symphony in music from the great Hollywood movies while actor, broadcaster, and writer Colin MacLean provides expert narration.

Says Banks: "We used to do an enormous amount of music live and on radio. Many of the radio programs were with pretty big orchestras, and these shows were thematic. Colin and I thought up the idea of Magnificent Westerns as a radio program and expanded it into a pops concert. The music all comes from Western movies or television shows, many are pretty old, some relatively new."

You'll hear such great themes as The Magnificent Seven, How the West was Won, Shenandoah, Riverboat, Trailmaster, The Virginian, Raintree Country, The Big Country, Dances with Wolves, The Cowboys, The Wild Wild West, Oklahoma, Silverado, and Star Wars.

So ride off into the sunset with Tommy Banks and the VI Symphony! Don't wait a coons age; burn the breeze down to The Port Theatre and git your tickets for an ace-high, all-fired daisy concert from the land of saddle-warmers. Now don't that just take the rag off the kit and caboodle, sittin' a spell, stretchin' the blanket, and listenin' to music that's as fine as cream gravy!
