Windward Pub Nanaimo

The Windward Pub in the Beaufort Centre, 1588 Boundary Cres., is a neighbourhood pub near the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. The decor is country style with wooden tables, a central fireplace, a TV screen showing sporting events, and a pool table. The nautical touches blend in well, and there’s lots of light and space. Local characters congregate at the 10-stool bar.

Community groups often schedule parties and fundraisers at the Windward Pub. For example, the Nanaimo Mental Health Association is currently holding meat draws Fridays from 6 pm to 8 pm. Saturday afternoons beginning around 12:30 pm the Red Hot Poker Tour is here with Texas hold’em just for fun (no money, no entry fee). Keno and the like are available all the time. The third Wednesday evening of the month there’s usually live music at the Windward Pub (call 250-754-7111 to check for events).

The food is good with burgers, wraps, stir fries, salads, and soup and sandwiches. The New York steak sandwich is a main dish at $10.95, or try the steak oscar (steak with asparagus and crab meat or shrimp) for $15.95. We especially like the Mexican selections, such as chicken or beef enchiladas (soft or deep fried) at $7.50. You can get an all day breakfast of bacon or ham with two eggs at $6.95. The Windward Pub opens daily from 9 am to 11 pm.
