Delicados Southwestern Restaurant

DelicadosOne of the most popular lunch places in Nanaimo's Old City Quarter is Delicado's Southwestern Restaurant, 358 Wesley Street. Weekdays around noon there will be a line of savvy Nanaimoites waiting for a tortilla roll-up or plate of enchiladas or burritos. It's Santa Fe-style Mexican and the atmosphere is cool. The eight tables outside are great in summer, or sit inside in the thick of things.

The usual order here is a custom-made roll-up with chicken, shrimp, or just veggies. The specialty roll-ups, including falafel and Thai curry are slightly more expensive. The traditional California roll-up is a tortilla filled with chicken or shrimp, mexi cheese, tomatoes, avocado, sunflower sprouts, and chipotle sauce. The enchiladas and burritos can also be ordered in half portions with salad. Big eaters can take the Coyote combo.

The food is freshly prepared on the premises daily – a good bet for vegetarians and others concerned about their diet or health. The staff is young and friendly and the clientele hip. Delicado's 358 Wesley St. location is open Monday to Wednesday from 10 am to 7 pm, Thursday and Friday 10 am to 8 pm, Saturday 11 am to 7 pm, and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm. A second Delicado's Restaurant is in North Nanaimo at 6581 Aulds Road, across the street from The Bay at Woodgrove and behind the BCAA office.
