Curiosity Cove Nanaimo

Curiosity Cove NanaimoAn intriguing place to shop for collectables and antiques is Curiosity Cove Furnishings Ltd., 59 Nicol St. next to the Nanaimo International Hostel. Owner Gerald Gonske and his family have been marketing antiques in Nanaimo since 1982. The Nicol St. location has been in operation since 1989, making it the oldest antique shop in downtown Nanaimo.

The focus is on British Columbia historical items and the place has the feel of a 19th century museum. Among the over 10,000 diverse objects on display are copper washtubs, Persian rugs, old license plates, and even a Louis 15th armchair from the Sheraton Mount Royal Hotel in Montreal. The little store with things galore will delight the nostalgic browser and free parking is provided.

Aside from selling a potpourri of unexpected treasures, Gerald restores antique furniture. He's a member of Canadian Personal Property Appraisers Group and does professional appraisals of estates. Before setting up the garage sale, consider calling Gerald if grandma left you a house full of Victorian furniture and knickknacks of unknown value.
