Crimson Coast Dance Society

Crimson Coast Dance SocietyThe Crimson Coast Dance Society has a weekend of events planned for May 4, 5, and 6 which integrate dance with the spoken and written word. On Friday and Saturday the pavilion on Newcastle Island will be the venue for Repeating Distance, a dance show featuring Lin Snelling of Montreal and Guy Cools from Belgium. Prior to the performance, the artists will spend some time getting a sense of Nanaimo’s history and culture. Their impressions will be woven into a program which will place our city in the context of Antwerp, Brugge, Montreal, and Amsterdam. The fee to be there is $20 including the ferry ride (reduced to $16 for students, seniors, and CCDS members).

On Sunday, May 6, the Crimson Coast Dance Society will host noted Canadian author Michael Ondaatje, author of The English Patient, at the Malaspina University Theatre. Ondaatje will read from his latest release, Divisadero, following which he’ll be interviewed by Shirley Goldber. A reception and booksigning are also on the program, and there will be live music by Michael Reinhart. Tickets are $15.00 from Faulkner Books at Port Place Mall or book online at Call (250) 716-3230 for more information.
