Painting Workshops, Quadra Island

Mudge LighthouseFiresign Art and Design Studio of Quadra Island has announced its 2007 calendar of painting workshops. Each of the eight workshops, ranging in length from one to five days, will be taught by a different British Columbia artist. Most participants elect to stay right on the premises at Firesign Bed and Breakfast in a nicely wooded location on Quadra Island.

The first workshop of the season will impart the art of portrait painting according to Perri Sparks (April 23-27). Marjorie Turnbull will share her knowledge of colour in painting from May 14-18. From May 25-27, Kristen Scholfield-Sweet will advise amateur artists on how to become professionals. From June 11-15, master landscape artist Peter Shostak will show his students how to add life to their work through composition and colour. Lovers of watercolours will sign up for Dianna Bersea's workshop from July 9-12. On August 1, Dianna returns for a one-day open air workshop. From September 7-9, Warren Stenberg will coach his students on the art of painting outside. The season culminates from September 17-21 with instruction in acrylic painting by Brian Simons.

Firesign B&B offers common cooking and dining facilities for guests, who can also choose to patronize the island's many fine restaurants. We've visited Quadra numerous times and have enjoyed most of the island's beautiful hiking trails. While you're there, we suggest staying an extra day and making a sidetrip to Cortes Island.

If you're at all into painting, a workshop at Firesign Art and Design Studio could become the unforgettable focus of a memorable holiday. Do book ahead, however, as Firesign B&B has only three rooms and just six or seven participants are accepted for each workshop.
