Be a Tourist in Victoria

Fairmont Empress HotelOne of the best entertainment deals on Vancouver Island is the annual Be A Tourist In Your Own Home Town promotion in Victoria, which runs this year from Wednesday, February 28, to Sunday, March 4, 2007. For just $9 per person (or $36 for a group of five) you get free admission to several dozen interesting Victoria tourist attractions, plus real discounts on a few more. There are reduced prices at top Victoria hotels for those who show their $9 pass, plus two-for-one deals at a few restaurants and cafes.

Last year we spent a couple of days in Victoria playing the tourist during Be A Tourist In Your Own Home Town week, and getting around to all the included attractions kept us busy! Undersea Gardens, Miniature World, Nightmares Entertainment, and the Royal London Wax Museum are only four of the sites you can enter for free with the pass. There’s always a lineup for the Gray Line “Toonie Tour of Victoria” which is a steal at $2.

You can purchase the “Be A Tourist In Your Own Home Town” ticket at Thrifty Foods and Serious Coffee outlets throughout Vancouver Island, or just drop into the Tourism Victoria Visitor Centre (tel. 250/953-2033), 812 Wharf Street, Victoria, right on the Inner Harbour opposite the Fairmont Empress Hotel (pictured here).
